Career History

Scott Sherwood is Chief Technology Officer of Kpler, a fast-growing global trade intelligence company providing real-time data and analytics across commodities, energy and maritime markets. Backed by Sixth Street and Insight Partners, its platform is used by traders, shipping companies and governments to understand global trade and manage market and geopolitical risk.

Sherwood joined Kpler as VP of Engineering in 2022 and was promoted to CTO in September 2024. He is responsible for the company’s global technology organisation and the continued development and scaling of its data platforms. During his time at Kpler, the company has grown rapidly through a combination of organic expansion and acquisitions. Annual recurring revenue increased from $100m in 2024 to approximately $300m in 2026.

Before joining Kpler, Sherwood spent more than six years at energy and natural resources intelligence company Wood Mackenzie, progressing from Lead Architect to Director of Engineering and ultimately VP of Engineering. During this period, he worked across the company’s content, application and data platforms before moving into broader engineering leadership. Sherwood holds a PhD in Computing Science from the University of Glasgow, completed in 2008. He previously earned a BSc (Hons) in Computing Science from the same university in 2003.

Its platform combines information from sources including satellites, vessel tracking systems, customs data and market participants to help customers monitor trade flows, shipping activity and supply chains.

Kpler was founded in 2014 by François Cazor and Jean Maynier and has grown to more than 850 employees across 69 nationalities. Alongside organic expansion, it has pursued an active acquisition strategy, acquiring MarineTraffic and FleetMon in 2023, Spire Maritime in 2025, and CITAC in 2026.

The company has grown rapidly, increasing annual recurring revenue from $100m in early 2024 to around $300m by 2026. After raising more than $200m from Insight Partners and Five Arrows in 2022, Kpler secured a $1bn-plus minority investment from Sixth Street in 2026, valuing the company at more than $3.7bn.
