About Synthesia
Synthesia was founded in 2017 by a group of AI researchers and entrepreneurs from UCL, Stanford, TUM and Cambridge. Its technology, based on deep learning architecture developed by Prof. Lourdes Agapito and Matthias Niessner, enables text-to-video content creation with the aim of making high-quality video accessible without the need for cameras.
In 2023, the company raised $90m in a Series C round led by Accel, with strategic investment from Nvidia, giving it unicorn status. Two years later, it secured $180m in a Series D round led by NEA, joined by Atlassian Ventures and existing backers such as GV.
In 2024, Synthesia launched its text-to-video AI assistant, and now counts more than 55,000 companies (including half of the Fortune 100) and 200,000 creators among its users.
