About DeepL

DeepL began as Linguee in 2008, founded by Gereon Frahling and Leonard Fink, before launching the DeepL Translator product in 2017 under Jaroslaw Kutylowski. The company has since developed into a broader AI-powered language platform spanning translation, writing and real-time spoken communication.

In early 2024, DeepL raised $300m at a $2bn valuation, with backing from Index Ventures, ICONIQ Growth, IVP, Atomico and others. Since then, it has expanded beyond text-based products with DeepL Voice, including real-time voice-to-voice translation for meetings, conversations and customer interactions.

DeepL now serves more than 200,000 business customers worldwide, including major global enterprises, and continues to expand its enterprise language platform across text, writing and voice. In 2026, it also added Mixhalo’s ultra-low-latency audio technology to strengthen its real-time voice offering.
