Career History

Since September 2024, Sebastian Enderlein has been CTO of DeepL, the German AI company known for its natural-sounding, AI-powered language translation. DeepL’s platform delivers fluent translations that accurately preserve meaning and style, making it a trusted choice for individuals and businesses worldwide.

Before joining DeepL, Enderlein spent four years at Personio, an HR software management company. During his time he was promoted from Vice President of Engineering to Executive Vice President of Engineering. He oversaw the consolidation of international growth and played a key role in scaling Personio into one of Europe’s leading tech companies, valued at $8.5bn. Earlier, he spent four years at Uber managing cloud infrastructure teams responsible for engineering on Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform. Prior to that, he worked at Salesforce for six years, rising to Head of Cloud Infrastructure.

Enderlein earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Software Systems Engineering from the Hasso Plattner Institute in Brandenburg, completing them in 2008 and 2009 respectively.
