Peter Hill is CTO of Synthesia, an AI video-creation company that enables businesses and creators to generate lifelike video entirely with AI. The platform is used for training, marketing, education and online content, reducing the cost and time of video production. As the UK’s most valuable generative-AI company, Synthesia is expanding rapidly and competes with global players such as OpenAI, Meta and Google. Hill, who joined in October 2024, oversees the company’s technical strategy, product development and engineering teams.

Before joining Synthesia, Hill was CPO of Wildlife Studios and later CEO. Earlier in his career, he spent over six years at Amazon Web Services (AWS) as Vice President of Productivity Applications, overseeing the End User Computing business and directing several other AWS services and products. This role capped an 18-year career with Amazon, during which he advanced from Systems Administrator and Network Engineer to senior software and management posts, ultimately becoming Director of Amazon Silk. About Synthesia

Synthesia was founded in 2017 by a group of AI researchers and entrepreneurs from UCL, Stanford, TUM and Cambridge. Its technology, based on deep learning architecture developed by Prof. Lourdes Agapito and Matthias Niessner, enables text-to-video content creation with the aim of making high-quality video accessible without the need for cameras.

In 2023, the company raised $90m in a Series C round led by Accel, with strategic investment from Nvidia, giving it unicorn status. Two years later, it secured $180m in a Series D round led by NEA, joined by Atlassian Ventures and existing backers such as GV.

In 2024, Synthesia launched its text-to-video AI assistant, and now counts more than 55,000 companies (including half of the Fortune 100) and 200,000 creators among its users.
